Juniors trounce Blue Jays Academy scout team 20-3

AJAX – The Junior National Team selection camp is underway in Ajax, Ont. where the Juniors have started preparations for the (WBSC) U-18 World Baseball Cup set to take place in Sarasota, Fla., from September 9 to September 18.

On Thursday, the Junior National Team (JNT) bats were on fire in the third game of their four-game exhibition series against the Toronto Blue Jays Academy Scout Team. They collected a total of 15 hits, resulting in a 20-3 victory in a 10-inning match-up.

The offence got off to a hot start thanks to a two-run home run by Sam White (Aurora, Ont.) in the bottom of the first inning. White would finish the day 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Hugh Pinkney (Toronto, Ont.) continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Tyrus Hall (Victoria, BC) and Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) went 3-for-3 and 2-for-2 respectively.

The juniors had a strong performance defensively, committing just one error.

Chase Marshall (Surrey, BC) was the starting pitcher, working three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out three. Carson Lumley (London, Ont.) was the first out of the bullpen. He permitted just one earned run on two hits in three innings. Next in line was Elliot Cadieux-Lanoue (St. Pie, Que.) who collected five strikeouts and gave up one run on two hits in his three-inning performance. Keegan O'Hearn (Oshawa, Ont.) closed out the contest, working a perfect 10th, striking out two out of the three batters he faced.
