The Junior National Team defeated the San Francisco Giants’ DIL squad 4-1 on Saturday.

After the early innings were dominated by strong pitching, the Juniors broke the scoreless tie in the third after a hit by pitch and series of walks brought Taye Thierman (Calgary, Alta.) home for the first run of the game.

The Juniors added to their lead in the sixth inning with singles by Robert Omidi (Mississauga, Ont.) and Elliot Lascelles (Toronto, Ont.) to increase the score to 3-0. Canada’s middle infielders combined for four hits and an RBI in the game.

On the mound, starter Mathis McKenna (Rigaud, Que.) tossed five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while striking out five.

Max Poirier (Nanaimo, BC) then closed out the contest, picking up three strikeouts and allowing just an unearned run in three innings.
