The Junior National Team lost the first game of their Dominican Fall Instructional League Camp to the Los Angeles Angels DR squad, 7-4.
The Juniors scored four runs on six hits and committed an error.
A fielder’s choice with Nathan Flewelling (Red Deer, Alta.) at the plate would give the JNT an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. However, the Angels would answer back, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom half to take the lead.
Left-hander Sean Duncan (Langley, BC) was the starter for Canada, working three innings and allowing three hits while collecting three strikeouts. Michael Yusypchuk (Edmonton, Alta.) also had a good outing, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out three.
The JNT’s offence would come back to life in the top of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs to shorten the Angels lead to 6-4. The offensive effort was capped by an RBI triple by Owen Gregg (Oakville, Ont.).
The Angels would answer back with a run in the bottom of the frame to round out the scoring.
