The Junior National Team lost 4-3 to the San Diego Padres DSL on Friday.
The Canadians had the bases loaded with only one out in the top of the ninth before the final inning was rolled on pitch count.
Aiden Taggart (Grimsby, Ont.) was the starter for the Juniors. In his four innings of work, he gave up three earned runs on three hits, while registering six strikeouts.
The Juniors got on the board in the top of the second thanks to back-to-back doubles by Anthony Clavet (Québec, Que.) and Tim Piasentin (Coquitlam, BC). They both finished 1-for-2 with a walk and a run batted in.
Sheamus Ryan (Calgary, Alta.) and William Labonte (Montreal, Que.) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief, both permitting only a hit and striking out one.
Leo Cote (Ayer’s Cliff, Que.) and Ryan Stalony (Mississauga, Ont.) continued to swing hot bats for the Juniors. Cote finished 1-for-2 while Stalony went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Mark Rogers (Cambridge, Ont.) worked in and out of trouble in the bottom of the seventh. The left-hander allowed a run on three hits despite striking out the first two batters he faced.
Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) picked up a strikeout while tossing a perfect bottom of the eighth.
The Canadians managed to add a run in the ninth before the game had to be ended due to pitch count limit.
