The Junior National Team got off to a strong start but eventually lost, 6-2, to the Pittsburgh Pirates DIL squad on Thursday.

Box Score

After a scoreless first inning, the Juniors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Finn Hoeschen (North Vancouver, BC) got it started with a leadoff single, this was followed by a walk to Liam Booth (Agassiz, BC). Phillip Cheong (Richmond Hill, Ont.) delivered with an RBI single to bring in Hoeschen.

The Canadians would also capitalize on a defensive miscue by the Pirates shortstop later that inning that allowed Booth to cross the plate.

Hoeschen would finish 3-for-3 for the Juniors.

On the mound, Austin Blair (Victoria, BC) started for the Juniors and picked up a pair of strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Adyn Schell (Toronto, Ont.) then took over and struck out three batters in his four innings of work.
