Juniors lose to Team USA at World Cup Selection camp

The Junior National Team Selection Camp moved down to Tampa Bay, Fla., earlier this week as the Juniors look to ramp up the workouts in preparation for the WBSC 2022 World Baseball Cup.

This last portion of the camp will feature three exhibition games against international competition where Canada will face off against the United States, Australia and Chinese Taipei.

Junior National Team 2-19 Team USA

The Junior National Team committed five errors in a 19-2 loss to Team USA in the first international exhibition game tune-up for both nations.

The game was played in Bradenton, Fla.

Offensively, the juniors collected six hits from six from different players in the lineup. Sam Shaw (Victoria, BC) went 1-for-2 and scored both runs and stole a base. Dylan O'Rae (Sarnia, Ont.) and Cameron Chee-Aloy (Toronto, Ont.) each collected a hit in four at bats at the top of the lineup. Deiten Lachance (Sherbrooke, Que.), Ty Hamilton (Orleans, Ont.) and Max Hartman (St. Albert, Alta.) had the other three hits.

Carson Lumley (London, Ont.) was the starting pitcher for the juniors. He allowed two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings before being replaced by Matteo Pare (LaSalle, Ont.) who proceeded to work 1 2/3 innings, surrendering one earned run on two hits while striking out one. Liam Adamson (London, Ont.) was next in line out of the the bullpen. He got tagged with five runs despite only permitting two hits while fanning one. Makaio Cisneros (Whitby, Ont.) worked the final two innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits.
