The Junior National Team dropped both ends of a doubleheader as parts of its Dominican pro academy tour on Thursday.

Ontario Astros LHP Geoffrey D’Amato (Milton, Ont.), Ontario Blue Jays OF Ryan Stalony (Mississauga (Ont.) and Okotoks Dawgs Leo Cote (Ayer’s Cliff, Que.).


Detroit Tigers DSL 6 Junior National Team 3

The Junior National Team lost 6-3 to the Detroit Tigers DSL in their first game on Thursday.

The Canadians scored three runs on six hits.

Tate Carey (Windsor, Ont.) was the starting pitcher for the Junior National Team. He put up four scoreless innings, permitting a walk and four hits while striking out three in his first start of the camp.

Outfielders Ryan Stalony (Mississauga, Ont.) and Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) led the charge offensively for the Juniors, finishing with 1-for-2 performances.

Ryan Press (Toronto, Ont.) pitched two innings in relief and allowed two earned runs despite only giving up one hit. He struck out three batters.

Owen Gregg (Oakville, Ont.) was a spark at the top of the lineup, getting on base three times. Tommy Hanger (Toronto, Ont.) came in to pinch-hit in the top of the eighth and singled in his lone at bat and scored a run to shorten the lead to 5-3 at the time.

Adyn Schell (Toronto, Ont.) tossed the last two frames for the Junior National Team, allowing a run on two hits and punching out two.


New York Yankees DSL 8 Junior National Team 4

The Junior National Team lost their second game on Thursday 8-4 to the New York Yankees DSL.

The Canadians had to play catch up as the Yankees took an early 8-0 lead in the first two innings.

Only two of the eight runs charged to Junior National Team starter Russell Kwinter (Toronto, Ont.) were earned. In total, he struck out five in his four innings of work.

Anthony Clavet (Québec, Que.) swung a hot bat at the top of the lineup, finishing 2-for-4. The big blow of the game came from Tim Piasentin (Coquitlam, BC) who clubbed a two-run home run in the top of fifth to cut the Yankees’ lead to 8-2.

Ryan Stalony (Mississauga, Ont.) and Leo Cote (Ayer's Cliff, Que) both went 1-for-2 with a run for the Juniors.

Geoffrey D’Amato (Milton, Ont.) finished the game on the mound for the Juniors. He allowed a pair of hits and two walks, while punching out three in four scoreless innings.
