The Junior National Team (JNT) selection camp has transitioned from Ajax, Ont., to Dunedin, Fla. where it will continue to prepare for the World Cup, which is to take place in Sarasota, Fla., from Sept. 9-to-18.
The JNT played their first exhibition game in Florida against the Toronto Blue Jays FCL squad and came away with a 1-1 tie on Friday.
The game was cancelled in the middle of the seventh inning due to bad weather.
Felix Morin (Quebec City, Que.) started on the mound for the juniors and worked three innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits, while striking out four. Carson Latimer (Delta, B.C.) was the first arm out of the bullpen. He scattered one hit and three walks in his two scoreless innings before giving way to Parker Burgess (Douro-Dummer, Ont.) who kept the Blue Jays FCL squad off the scoreboard in his sole inning of work.
The big offensive blow for the juniors came courtesy of Cameron Chee-Aloy (Toronto, Ont.) who singled home Dylan O’Rae (Sarnia, Ont.) in the top of the third inning to tie the game 1-1. Hugh Pinkney (Toronto, Ont.) had a hit and a walk and continues to lead the juniors’ offence during the Selection Camp. Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) and Ty Hamilton (Orleans, Ont.) also collected a hit each.
