The Junior National Team lost 3-0 to Cuba at the U18 Pan Am Championship on Wednesday.

It was their first loss of the tournament.

With the defeat, Canada will finish in second place in Group A.

Box Score

On the mound, Canada's starter, Jacob Wallace (Pincourt, Que,), matched Cuba's left-hander through a scoreless first inning. However, an error and a pair of singles in the bottom of the second opened the door for a big inning for the Cubans. Brian Kevin Garzon Cruz would deliver the big blow with a two-run single to cap a three-run inning for Team Cuba.

Wallace rebounded to hold Cuba scoreless through the next three innings. In total, in five innings, the right-hander permitted three runs on four hits, while striking out four.

Anthony Clavet (Quebec City, Que.) and Leo Cote (Ayer’s Cliff, Que.) picked up the only two hits for Canada.

Looking Ahead

With their 4-1 record, Canada has clinched second place in Group A, locking a spot in the quarter finals of the U18 Pan American Championship. Before moving into the next round, however, the Canadians will have to take on El Salvador on Thursday at the Estadio Rod Carew in their last game of the group phase.
