Left-hander Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, Que.) is set to join the Caribes de Anzoátegui of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.
In 27 appearances (19 starts) split between High-A, double-A and triple-A in the San Diego Padres’ organization this season, Cienfuegos posted a 9-8 record and a 5.36 ERA, while fanning 84 batters in 124 1/3 innings.
In heading to Venezuela, Cienfuegos adds another country to the list of places where he has played.
In 2022, Cienfuegos toed the rubber for teams in three different countries: the Panama team, with whom he competed in the Caribbean Baseball World Series in the Dominican Republic, the Quebec Capitales and the Adelaide Giants of the Australian Professional Baseball League.
I've been following Cienfuegos' career since he pitched for the Laval Associates (now the Laval Pirates) of the Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League. I continued to follow him with ABC, the St. Clair College Saints, NorthWest Florida State College and then with the Quebec Capitales.
