Quebec’s Mr. Baseball

Victor Plaz and his teammates from Clarendon College in Texas played a doubleheader against Redlands Community College, a school from Oklahoma.

In the second game, Plaz (Montreal, Que.) and his team won 11-1. The 21-year-old former member of the Saint-Eustache Bisons of the Quebec Elite Junior League had a bases loaded walk in the second inning and finished the game 0-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI. The RBI was his third in five games.

Redlands Community College won the first game 5-4 and Plaz was not on the starting lineup, but was brought in as an pinch hitter in the sixth inning.

Among other Quebecers playing in American universities and colleges:

The University of Virginia Cavaliers suffered a 3-2 loss at the hands of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels at Chapel Hill. Marc-Antoine Lebreux (Sainte-Anne Que.) had two walks in the contest for the Cavs.

Anthony Marcano (Sainte-Anne, Que.) started for the Campbellsville University Tigers from Kentucky against the Cumberland University Phoenix of Tennessee in a doubleheader. In Game 1, a Campbellsville 6-2 win, Marcano went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter.

The Campbellsville squad swept the doubleheader with an 11-1 win in the second game. Marcano was not in the starting lineup, but was inserted as a left fielder in the sixth inning.

The University of Sacramento State Hornets, featuring Martin Vincelli-Simard (Boisbriand, Que.), had their opening series against Pacific cancelled.

Olivier Mayrand (Laval, Que.) and Thomas Drouin (Quebec City, Que.), of the University Nova Southeastern Sharks in Florida and the Baruch College Bearcats of New York respectively, had their spring seasons cancelled due to COVID-19.
