Hoosiers Plate 20 in Bounce Back Win over Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Indiana baseball (16-10, 4-1) strung together 20 runs on 18 hits, including nine home runs, to earn a 20-5 victory over the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday to even the series at one game apiece.

KEY MOMENTS
• Junior Matt Gorski led off the game with a double to the left-center gap, stole third and scored on an RBI single by sophomore Drew Ashley.
• Senior Matt Lloyd (Okotoks, Alta.) hit the first of his two home runs in the top of the first, as his two-run shot and a balk later in the frame plated three runs to give the Hoosiers a 4-0 lead.
• After Maryland plated a run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run, Lloyd hit his second home run in as many innings with a solo shot in the second.
• Freshman Grant Richardson hit the first of his three home runs with solo shot to center in the third inning.
• The Hoosiers had a seven-run fourth inning. Senior Cade Bunnell singled to third, Lloyd walked and sophomore Elijah Dunham singled to score both runners. Sophomore Cole Barr followed with a two-run home run to make it a 10-1 game.
• Later in the frame, Richardson singled, junior Jeremy Houston doubled and Gorski drilled a three-run homer to make it 13-1 after four.
• That was followed up with a five-run fifth inning. Lloyd doubled to right, Dunham and Barr walked, and Richardson hit a grand slam to make it a 17-1 game. Bradley knocked out a solo shot to cap the five-run fifth.
• Bradley's second home run of the game came in the top of the seventh.
• Richardson hit out his third home run in the ninth. The Terps came back in the bottom half and plated four runs, resulting in a 20-5 score.

NOTES
• The Hoosiers' 20 runs are a season-high and the most since scoring 22 vs. Northwestern on April 14, 2018.
• Indiana's nine home runs are the most since having nine vs. Morehead State on March 10, 2009.
• Additionally, the nine home runs are most in a single-game for any team in the country this year. The next most is six, which has been done by eight teams.
• IU has now hit 48 home runs this season. The Hoosiers entered the weekend first in the Big Ten and third nationally in round trippers.
• Six different Hoosiers recorded multi-RBI games on Saturday.
• Richardson set new career-highs in hits (5), home runs (3), RBI (6) and runs (4). The three home runs are a freshman record at Indiana.
• He is the first Hoosier to get three home runs in a game since Logan Sowers had three vs. Ohio on June 3, 2017 in the Lexington, Ky. NCAA Regional.
• He now has four, three-plus hit games just 12 games into his freshman campaign.

• In his first 12 career games, Richardson is hitting .400 (20-for-50) with six home runs, four doubles, 23 RBI (team-best) and 16 runs.
• Lloyd finished 3-for-4 with the two home runs, a double, three RBI, four runs (matches career-high) and two walks. He and Richardson both posted three extra-base hit games since Sowers had three against Pacific on March 11, 2018.
• Bradley went 3-for-5 with two home runs (career-high) two RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
• Barr knocked out his Big Ten leading 10th home run of the season. He finished the game with two RBI, three runs, and a walk.
• Gorski went 2-for-6 with a home run (7th of the year), a double, three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
• Gordon tossed his third-consecutive quality start. The reigning Big Ten Pitcher of the Week went seven innings, allowing three hits and one run, striking out five and walking one.
• In his last three starts, Gordon has posted a 3-0 record, tossing 22.0 innings, allowing just 10 hits and three runs, posting 27 strikeouts and only two walks.

Offense Explodes Again in 19-4 Victory over Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Indiana (17-10, 5-1) used another strong offensive output and strong pitching from junior Andrew Saalfrank on Sunday to pick up a 19-4 victory over Maryland to win the series.

KEY MOMENTS
• Sophomore Elijah Dunham got the scoring started in the top of the first with an RBI single up the middle. Sophomore Cole Barr followed with sac fly to give the Hoosiers a 2-0 lead.
• Maryland's A.J. Lee led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to cut the IU lead to 2-1.
• With runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the second, sophomore Drew Ashley knocked out a three-run home run to put the Hoosiers up by four. Senior Matt Lloyd stepped up next and hit out a solo shot to make it a 6-1 game.
• The bases went loaded in the top of the third for Indiana. Ashley worked a walk and then Lloyd cleared the bases with a double to make it 10-1 in favor of IU.
• After the Terps got a run in the third, IU used a five-run fifth to take a 15-2 lead. A fielder's choice RBI and another run plated on an error eventually led to a three-run home run from junior Scotty Bradley.
• The Hoosiers tacked on their final four runs in the eighth, thanks in part to Lloyd's second home run of the game, a three-run shot.

NOTES
• Saalfrank struck out 11 hitters in six innings, his second double-digit strikeout game this season. He allowed five hits and two earned runs with three walks, as he improved to 2-1 on the season.
• For the second consecutive game, Lloyd tallied three extra-base hits, going 3-for-5 with a career-high seven RBI and three runs. It was his second consecutive multi-home run game. He now has nine home runs on the season and 29 for his career.
• Bradley set a career-high in hits with four, as he went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored.
