Job Opportunity: Executive Director

Clyde Inouye, a co-founder of the British Columbia Premier League and current president Ted Hotzak are stepping away from their management duties — once they find a replacement.

Inouye was the chief executive from 1995 to 2002 and since then Hotzak has been in charge.

The league was started by Lowell Hodges, Walt Burrows, Dave Wallace and Inouye with four Island teams and has grown to 13 organizations with a total of 39 teams with each team fielding bantam, junior and senior teams.


The British Columbia Premier Baseball Association is looking for an Executive Director.

The Premier Baseball Association is a non-profit organization that provides the governance and administration for thirty-nine (39) high performance baseball teams to participate in provincial competition. These teams are divided into three divisions: bantam premier, junior premier, and senior premier.

Teams in each division play a league schedule of 40-48 games from April to August that culminates in a provincial championship. This is a league for high schoolers that was launched in 1995 as baseball was not offered as a high school sport. The association is entering the 27th year of competition and is referred to as the British Columbia Premier Baseball League (BCPBL).

The Ideal Candidate/Desired Qualifications

1. Has an understanding of premier baseball or a level higher as a coach, general manager, administrator, umpire, or volunteer. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing league competition and the championships for three divisions.

2. Has demonstrated effective administrative skills. The candidate will be responsible for interacting and communicating with 39 teams.

3. Has demonstrated effective time management and communication skills. The candidate will have deadlines to meet and meetings to attend where effective verbal communication skills will be required.

4. Has the ability to work flexible and irregular hours that will include some travel to observe league games and oversee championships.

5. Has demonstrated a level of technological skills to communicate using e-mail and other social medium platforms.

6. Has an understanding of “best practice” theory and how it applies to decision making.

7. Has demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, and has a sense of humor.

Job description:

 The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Premier Baseball Association.

 The Executive Director will report to the President of the Premier Baseball Association.

 The Executive Director will act in an advisory capacity to the President and Board of Directors on all aspects of the Premier Baseball Association.

 The Executive Director along with the President will act as a spokesperson for the Premier Baseball Association.

 The Executive Director along with the President will conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Premier Baseball Association.

 The Executive Director will ensure that the operation of the Premier Baseball Association meets the expectations of all the teams.

 The Executive Director will oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the Premier Baseball Association.

 The Executive Director will provide support to the General Managers Committee (GMC) by preparing meeting agendas and providing supporting materials for league meetings.

 The Executive Director will oversee the program planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of the programs and services within the Premier Baseball Association.

Duties

The Executive Director will:

1. be responsible for the financial planning and management of accounts for Premier Baseball Association.

2. prepare an annual budget for the Premier Baseball Association.

3. prepare a financial report for the AGM of the Premier Baseball Association.

4. prepare an annual application for a direct access grant from the Gaming Branch to support travel of teams in the Premier Baseball Association.

5. work with players and teams to generate funds for the Premier Baseball Association through the acquisition of website advertising, fund raising, and sponsorship.

6. work on acquiring website advertising and sponsorship to generate funds for the Premier Baseball Association based on a 40% commission on funds secured.

7. submit expenditures to the President for the day to day operation of the Premier Baseball Association.

8. sign contracts in consultation with the President on behalf of the Premier Baseball Association; examples of such contracts include the Pointstreak Scoring Program, BCBUA and PCBUA.

9. oversee the scholarship program for the Premier Baseball Association.

10. oversee the BCPBL Honor Roll that will acknowledge the support and work of individuals who have promoted premier baseball in the province

11. work with the webmaster to ensure that information posted is updated and appropriate for the Premier Baseball Association.

12. draft policies and review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the GMC. will ensure that insurance policies are in place for teams in the Premier Baseball Association.

13. oversee the all-conference program for the PBL.

14. also perform a multitude of other duties as required and requested by the president.

15. receive a monthly honorarium of $3000 per month for carrying out the above duties.
