Make sure you think of our George Farelli
The Canadian Baseball Network is a basically a group of writers writing about the game from University of British Columbia’s new ball yard on Point Grey campus to Legends Field in Summerside, PEI and every where in between.
We really don’t have an office, but are scattered across the country.
We try to cover the major leaguers, the minor leaguers, the collegians, the prospects and those on the sandlots.
One lynch pin since we began in 1999 was George Farelli, who has covered the Canadians in the Minors like a tarp each week. He was as regular as the 7:05 train. Each week.
We have been thinking a lot of George this week. So, has his old double play partner Brian (Cleats) Cowan. And so should you.
George lost his wife, Anne McAuley. The funeral service was at the Bernardo Funeral Home in Toronto. Anne’s daughter Lynn is the acclaimed National Newspaper Award winner with the Toronto Star.
Anne and George met in 1969 at a ball game at Davisville Park, and were devoted partners ever since.
Brian Cowan and George played as teenage double play combination at Earlscourt Park with Perth Boys Club for coach Harry McAloney, who also coached Baseball Canada’s Greg Hamilton.
