Mathis, Sabrowski named WMBL Stars of the Week

The WMBL announced the Stars of the Week today.

Infielder Zach Mathis of the Weyburn Beavers was awarded the WMBL Player of the Week honours while Erik Sabrowski of the Edmonton Prospects was named Pitcher of the Week.

Honourable Mention for Player of the Week was given to Swift Current’s Nick Canas and Jake Lanferman from the Edmonton Prospects.

Ryan Johnson of Weyburn and Mitch Guiberson of Swift Current received Honourable Mention as Pitcher of the Week.

Weyburn’s Zach Mathis held a hot bat during the Eastern Division Championship series. The freshman from the San Joaquin Delta Community College contributed four runs, 10 hits including two doubles, a walk and two RBI.

In Game 2 of the Western Division Championship series against Medicine Hat, Erik Sabrowski of the Edmonton Prospects had an incredible performance in victory. The local product, who pitches at Cisco Community College in Texas, threw a complete game, three-hit shutout. Sabrowski also struck out four of the 32 Mavericks batters he faced.
