Official Okotoks Dawgs News Release

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Fort McMurray Giants on Wednesday night 11-8 to split the two-game series.

The Dawgs came alive in the sixth inning, scoring five runs and then put up three runs in the seventh and eighth combined, to overtake the Giants and earn their 30th win of the season.

The Dawgs remain atop the west division after the victory.

Brady Baltus had a rocky outing allowing four earned runs in five innings. The Dawgs’ relief pitching was key in the game and efforts from Ryan McFarland (Calgary, Alta.), Connor Robbins (Calgary, Alta.) and Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) allowed Matt Wilkinson (Okotoks, Alta.) to come in and seal the victory. Wilkinson pitched 1 2/3 innings and finished with four strikeouts to earn the save. Robbins was credited with his second win of the season.

The Dawgs’ offence was led by Micah McDowell (Kentville, N.S.) who hit a bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning. McDowell would finish the night 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and four RBIs. Ricky Sanchez and Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) both had two hits and combined for three RBIs. Ruben Cedillo had two RBIs and scored two runs.

The Dawgs will embark on a two-game road trip starting in Brooks on Thursday night before returning to Seaman Stadium on Saturday
