Metro Atlantic conference tourney comes to The Falls

EDISON, NJ – Following the conclusion of the regular season this afternoon, all six teams have been determined to compete for the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship trophy.
Fairfield University claims the top seed in this year’s championship. The Stags went 17-7 in MAAC play for the second-straight season to claim the regular season championship. The Stags will play the lowest seeded winner based on the results from #3 Canisius/#6 Rider and #4Iona/#5 Manhattan matchups. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm on Wednesday, May 24. The game will be shown live on MAAC.TV
For the first time since 2000, Iona College will compete in the MAAC Baseball Championship. The fourth seeded Gaels will take on fifth seeded Manhattan College at 3:30pm on Wednesday, May 24. The Jaspers claimed the final spot in the championship after sweeping Saint Peter’s University to finish its regular season. During the regular season, Iona took two out of three games from the Jaspers.
Marist College claimed the No. 2 seed in this year’s championship after going 16-8 in conference play in 2017. The Red Foxes, who finished tied in the standings with Canisius College at 16-8 in the MAAC, hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Griffs with a regular season sweep over Canisius. Marist will take on the higher seeded opponent based on the results from Canisius/Rider and Iona/Manhattan. Marist takes the field on Thursday, May 25 on MAAC.TV with first pitch scheduled for noon.
Co-host of the 2017 MAAC LifeStorage championship, third seeded Canisius College, will face sixth seeded Rider University. The Griffs went 16-8 in MAAC play while the Broncs went 12-12. Canisius swept Rider during the regular season. The Jaspers took two out of three games from the Broncs, giving them the head to head tiebreaker over Rider.
First pitch between Canisius and Rider is scheduled for noon on Wednesday, May 24.

The 2017 MAAC LifeStorage championship, takes place at Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls, NY and is co-hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University. The double-elimination style tournament concludes with the championship series on Saturday, May 27, starting at noon with the second game starting at 3:30pm, if necessary. All games on Friday, May 26 will be streamed live on MAAC.TV.
