Myette featured guest at BC Coaches Conference this month

Back by popular demand ... for the annual BC Minor Coaches Conference 2021 is coach Aaron Myette.

Myette (Surrey, BC) is a 10-year ex-pro pitcher spending time in the majors with the Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds. He pitched for Team Canada in 2004 at the Athens Olympics and in 2006 at the World Baseball Classic.

A former first round pick, he also spent time in the Japanese League with the Rakuten Golden Eagles. He is currently Canada’s head coach for the Women’s National Team.

Drafted in the 17th round by the Seattle Mariners in 1995, he opted to attend the University of Washington Huskies and then transferred to the Central Arizona College Vaqueros where he earned First Team All American honours.

In 1997, he was one of three, first-round Canadians. Kevin Nicholson (Surrey, BC) selected from the Stetson University Hatters, went 27th overall in North America to the San Diego Padres.

Next was OF Ntema Ndungidi (Montreal, Que.) of the Academie Baseball Canada, who was chosen 36th by scout Wayne Norton (Port Moody, BC) of the Baltimore Orioles.

And then along came Myette, chosen 43rd overall by the Chicago White Sox from Central Arizona.

Myette has been working with athletes for over 15 years. Throughout his career and post career he has devoted his time to maximizing athletic output for the individual athlete and has worked with some of the world’s best pitching coaches and strength trainers in the process.

The conference begin Friday, March 26 from 5-to-10 p.m. On Saturday, the event runs from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and it winds up Sunday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.. The Virtual Event will be hosted by HQ Enterprise.

Myette now does work locally and overseas with youth in sports and is excited to be a part of the Gameready team.

After pitching in the minors with rookie-class Bristol, class-A Hickory, class-A Winston-Salem and double-A Birmingham, his major-league debut game was Sept. 7, 1999 when he relieved Mike Sirotka in the fifth inning for the White Sox in a 14-1 loss to the Anaheim Angels. The first hitter he faced was Tim Salmon who flew out to left. Myette ended up allowing one run in two innings in his debut.

In his first win, Myette pitched 5 1/3 innings, as the Rangers thumped the New York Yankees 12-2 at Yankee Stadium. He allowed both runs, striking out four, including the first two men he faced: Chuck Knoblauch and Derek Jeter as well as Todd Greene and Alfonso Soriano.

After going 4-5 with the Rangers in 2001 in 19 games (making 15 starts), he was 2-5 in 15 games (12 starts). He had two games with Cleveland and five with the Reds. Lifetime he was 6-12 with 134 strikeouts in 154 1/3 innings.

The BC Minor Coaches Conference is the only one of its kind in Western Canada and is regarded as the best in the country.
