Play at the Baseball Canada Cup in Moncton was suspended due to heavy rain that hit the area causing games to be rescheduled. Play will resume on Friday with a revised schedule that can be found here.

Meanwhile, the 21U Women’s Invitational began in Stonewall, Man., with all five teams seeing action including a battle between 2017 finalists, Ontario and Québec, that took eight innings to decide with Ontario pulling out a 12-11 win.

Ontario 13, Manitoba 1

Defending champions Ontario struck for five runs in the first and didn’t look back as they defeated Manitoba, 13-1. Miya Waldron led Ontario’s nine-hit attack with a 2-for-4 game at the plate and two RBI while pitchers Tess Forman and Lochlahn March limited Manitoba to just four hits. Ontario put across four runs in the fifth and blanked Manitoba in the bottom of the inning to end the game via the mercy rule.

Nova Scotia 15, Saskatchewan 0

Nova Scotia’s Mackenzie Pinet went 3-for-3, drove in four runs and also came in to record the final out of the ballgame to lead her side to a 15-0, mercy rule win over Saskatchewan. Nova Scotia starter Carly Jackson fanned seven over three and two-thirds innings on the mound while Makayla Addington recorded two hits and scored three runs.

Ontario 12, Québec 11

This one had plenty of offence as Ontario and Québec combined for 23 runs on 26 hits in a battle between the only two gold medalists in event history. Tied, 8-8, after seven, Québec pushed across three runs in the eighth only to see Ontario strike for four in the bottom of the inning with Emily Baxter scooting home from third on a passed ball with the winning run. Baxter had a big day at the plate with three hits and four RBI while Julia Jodouin also had three hits and scored twice. Québec spread around their offence with six different players recording multi-hit games including Andreanne Leblanc who went 3-for-4 with a double and Alexane Fournier who drove in three as part of a 2-for-5 game at the plate.

Manitoba 15, Saskatchewan 2

Manitoba shook off an earlier defeat and thrilled the hometown fans with a convincing, 15-2, win over rival Saskatchewan. Manitoba struck for seven runs in the first inning highlighted by a Zoe Hicks inside-the-park grand slam and received a solid performance from starting pitcher Brittney Langlais who struck out five over three and two-thirds innings of work. Manitoba had 19 hits including four off the bat of Caitlin Wilkinson while Hicks also contributed a pair of doubles.
