Nationals: 16U Girls Invitational highlights four titles

OTTAWA- With the completion of the DQ® 13U National Western, 18U and 21U men’s National Championships last weekend, four more Baseball Canada Championships are set to kick off on Wednesday including a bit of history being made at one of the events.
16U Girl’s Invitational
For the first time since 2003 when the event was first played, the 16U Girl’s Invitational will have representation from all 10 provinces. This year’s championship will take place in Bedford, N.S. and will include a 12-team field with Nova Scotia and Québec sending two squads each.
PEI sent a squad for the first time in 2017 and New Brunswick will join the fold this year to round out representation from coast-to-coast.
Ontario and Québec had held bragging rights at the 16U Girl’s Invitational since 2012 with Ontario winning three titles while Québec has won four including 2017.

DQ® 13U National Championship
Some of the top 13U clubs in the country will be in Woodstock, Ont., for the DQ® 13U National Championships.
Ten clubs including host Woodstock will be vying for a national title that was won in 2017 by a squad from North York with silver and bronze medals going to Saskatchewan and Québec, respectively.
Participants include BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, two squads from Québec, Nova Scotia, PEI and host Woodstock.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, August 23rd.

Ray Carter Cup/15U
The event named after Baseball Canada’s longest serving president features some of the top 15U squads in the country heading to Oshawa, Ont., for a four-day event.
Defending champions, Québec will be back to defend their title won in Summerside, PEI in 2017 and will be joined by 2017 silver and bronze medalists New Brunswick and Saskatchewan along with BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Brampton and host Oshawa from Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland & Labrador.
Games will take place at three venues with Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium as the main venue with games at Clarington NW and Ritson Field.

Men’s National
The 50th edition of the Men’s National Championships will see the event head back to the west coast for the second consecutive year with Victoria, BC welcoming 10 participating teams. A home run derby will kick off the festivities on Wednesday with participants mashing balls at Royal Athletic Park, home of the Victoria HarbourCats. The 2017 event was memorable for baseball in Canada’s westernmost province with the Burnaby (BC) Bulldogs capturing the gold medal while Fredericton and Red Deer won silver and bronze, respectively.
