National Championships: Three championships kick off today

OTTAWA- Action at three different Baseball Canada National Championships will begin on Thursday and run through Sunday, including the DQ® 13U National Western Championship in Brandon, Man., the 18U Championship in Fort McMurray, Alta., and the 21U Men’s Championships in St. Thomas, Ont. 

DQ® 13U National Western Championship

Eight teams representing Canada’s four westernmost provinces will descend upon Brandon, Man., for the annual DQ® 13U National Western Championships. Joining host Brandon representing Manitoba are clubs from North Winnipeg and Oildome while squads representing Saskatchewan include Saskatoon and Regina. Teams from St. Albert and Red Deer will form the Alberta contingent while BC is back to defend their gold medal won in 2017.

18U

After hosting the Baseball Canada Cup in 2016, Fort McMurray, Alta., will welcome the 18U National Championships to Shell Place Stadium and Ross Hennigar Park. Play will get underway on Thursday, August 16 with all 10 teams in action including host Fort McMurray taking on the Alberta representatives following the opening ceremonies. The London Badgers won the event in 2017 and are back to defend their title and are joined in Pool A by BC, 2017 bronze medalists New Brunswick, Québec and Saskatchewan. Pool B features Alberta; host Fort McMurray, Manitoba and Etobicoke (ON).

21U Men’s

The community of St. Thomas, Ont., will host the 21U National Championships, one of Baseball Canada’s oldest events, at beautiful Emslie Field and Cardinal Field. Host St. Thomas won bronze in 2017 and will be joined by a 10-team field including defending gold medalists, Québec, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Ontario teams Oshawa, Windsor and Mississauga North. Fans will be treated to a Home Run Derby on Wednesday, August 15 before the tournament opens the following day.
