Nick Vickers signs with Virginia Tech

Former Okotoks Dawgs LHP Nick Vickers, has committed to play for the NCAA Division I Virginia Tech Hokies of the ACC this fall.

“It’s something I’ve been working for my entire life,” he said.

“So it’s a dream come true.”

Vickers (Calgary, Alta.) enjoyed a fantastic year with Colby Community College last spring, leading the team in strikeouts with 87 over 60 innings pitched, while holding an ERA of 3.58.

With the Dawgs in 2017, he’s fanned 14 over nine innings of work, good for second on the club.

Virginia Tech has added the lefty following a 23-32 campaign, while finishing the year 14-13 in the friendly confines of English Field at Union Park.

In the 2017 MLB draft, two Hokies were selected.
