Odd's walkoff HR propels Baycats to win in first game of IBL finals

BARRIE, Ont. – Adam Odd’s fifth hit was a two-run blast in the bottom of the 12th inning to give Barrie a 12-10 win over Guelph on Sunday in Game 1 of the IBL final.

Odd also doubled and hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning as part of a six-RBI night. Nolan Machibroda went 4-for-7 with an RBI, Brandon Hernandez had two hits and drove in two, Royce Ando drove in a run and Kyle Maves singled three times.

Carlos Sano picked up the win on the mound in four innings of relief. One of the five runs he allowed was earned. He walked three and struck out three. Frank Garces started and went seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked three and struck out eight.

Kyle Thomas started for Guelph and gave up eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings. Drew Durst took the loss in relief, giving up three runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked five and struck out two.

Ethan Hammond went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Andy Leader drove in two on two hits, Garrett Takamatsu drilled a solo home run, and Ashton Patterson went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Carson Burns had an RBI.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Tuesday in Guelph at 7:30 p.m.
