University of Michigan Athletics News Release

Left-handed pitcher Connor O'Halloran, of the University of Michigan baseball team, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 20th pick of the fifth round (157th overall) on day two of the 2023 MLB Draft on Monday afternoon (July 10).

O'Halloran's being chosen continues a 10-year streak of a Wolverine being selected in the MLB Draft. He is the first player to be drafted by the Blue Jays since Kyle Bohm in 2005.

A native of Mississauga, Ont., O'Halloran was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and a first team All-Big Ten selection. He was the first player in Michigan history to have back-to-back 100-strikeout seasons and stands at No. 10 overall all-time in punchouts. This season, he had a 4.11 ERA over 17 appearances (15 starts) with a complete-game victory over Michigan State. O'Halloran finished first in the Big Ten in WHIP at 1.13 and second in strikeouts with 110.

The 2023 MLB Draft concludes Tuesday (July 11) with rounds 11-20 beginning at 2 p.m. on MLB.com.
