Meat Loaf used to sing -- with New York Yankees Hall of Famer Phil Rizzuto broadcaster doing play-by-play in the background -- Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.
The Dbacks Scout Team from Langley, B.C. pitched two shutouts in the first three games at the Perfect Game West MLK Upperclass championship at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Az., the spring home of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The DBacks, coached by Doug Mathieson and Jamie Bodaly then dropped the finale.

Meanwhile, RHP David Rhodes (White Rock, BC) also attended the event with Pacific Northwest Regional , which ended round robin play 5-2. Seeded second, they advanced to the semi-finals.
Rhodes pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings as Pacific Northwest beat Cintron & Diaz Baseball 4-1. He allowed three hits, zero walks and fanned seven in his 55-pitch outing (37 strikes).

RHPs Travis McDougall (Abottsford, BC) and Kevin Kim Abottsford, BC) combined to blank the Angels Scout team 7-0. The lanky McDougall projects well for the 2018 draft, according to scouts. He needed only 47 pitches to work strong hitless innings striking out four. His fastball was 82-84 MPH and touched 85.
Kim, a 2019 draft eligible, threw scoreless inning with good command and a live fastball.
3B Dylan Ohlsen (Abotsford, BC) had a pair of hits, including a double, and knocked in two runs.
SS Gus Wilson (Nanaimo, BC) from the Langley Blaze, drove in two runs on a bases-loaded single as well as making made some slick plays up the middle and showing his plus glove .
3B Daniel Martin (Penticton, BC) crushed a ball up the middle which resulted in an RBI for the 2019 grad a member of the Blaze and the Langley Secondary School Academy. 1B Michael Stovman (Maple Ridge, BC) knocked in a run.
The second game was a reverse as of the first as the DBacks faced NorthEast National and lost 12-0 loss. The NEN roster was like an all-star team when looking at the Perfect Game 2017 and 2018 prospect rankings. Four of the spots are filled by 2017 prospects (led by OF Jacob Pearson from West Monroe, La., at 39th) in the top 127 nationally and five of the 2018s (led by Mississippi C-INF Christopher Willis, 26th) in the top 179 in the North America.
Stovman started and faired well with his 84-86 MPH fastball, but didn’t get much support on defence as the top team in the tourney capitalized on extra outs.
C Kayden Beauregard (Abbotsford, BC) knocked a couple of hits while, OF Dawson Gray (Langley, BC) of the Blaze) and Wilson with a line drive to right centre each had hits.
And in the third game, the DBacks thumped the Arizona RoughRiders 22-0 thanks to Rhys Cratty (Langley, BC) of the Blaze driving in four runs, three on a long-distance three-run homer.
Tate Dearing (White Rock, BC) was dominant sitting at 86 MPH and topping out at 88 with great actions on the mound and showing a projectable body.
Daniel Martin (Kelowna, BC), a 2019 draft eligible, and Wilson each had three hits. Martin doubled twice and Wilson once.
Brett Bass (Abottsford BC) and Ohlsen each had two hits apiece, with Ohlsen doubling twice and knocking in a pair of runs. Gray doubled in two runs.
And in the finale, the DBacks were edged 7-6 by Citius as Ohlsen continued his weekend to remember going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
Bass has two hits and two stolen bases, while Clayton Keyes (Okotoks, Alta.) doubled in pair of runs. Gray singled, knocked in a run and stole a base.

The Inside Prospects from Regina, Sask. were on hand as well, going 1-2 in round-robin play.

Also on hand was RHP Jordan Bahnuk (Woodstock, Ont.), a 2017 draft eligible, from the Ontario Nationals. Bahnuk's fastball was clocked at 85 MPH pitching for the DBacks.

2017 Perfect Game West MLK Championship Day 2 Scout Notes
RHP David Rhodes (White Rock, BC), 2018 C-Washington.
By Matt Czechanski
Perfect Game
In what was a slightly delayed day around the greater Glendale area, action picked back up over at Sierra Linda High School. Righthanded pitcher David Rhodes (2018, White Rock, BC), a Washington commit, took to the mound for Pacific Northwest Regional Baseball and fired an impressive 3 1/3 scoreless innings on the mound. Rhodes has a very projectable frame on the mound, listed at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with long limbs and lots of room to fill out. He pitched with a short, compact arm action, slightly higher back elbow, and threw from a three-quarters arm slot. His arm worked quickly and well through the back before exploding downhill with a slightly closed landing. Rhodes generated short arm-side life to his fastball that worked in the upper-80s and touched 89 mph a pair times, he also held the velocity well. He used a drop and drive element with an average stride down the mound and was fairly balanced despite some effort at release. He also mixed in a hard breaking curveball with 12-to-6 shape at 76 mph with good depth and late bite out of the zone. He rounded a breaking ball off as well with 11-to-5 shape that showed some slider tendencies at 79 mph only once in the game. Overall the outing was highly impressive, working both sides of the plate and showing present feel to spin.
