JOSÉ RAMÍREZ, TYLER O’NEILL NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK PRESENTED BY CHEVROLET
All-Star third baseman José Ramírez of the Cleveland Indians has been chosen the American League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet, and outfielder Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, B.C.) of the St. Louis Cardinals has been named the National League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.
Ramírez earned his fourth career weekly award, most recently in July 2018, and is Cleveland’s first position player to accomplish the feat since his last honor. Prior to Ramírez, Edwin Encarnación June 2018) was the last Indians position player to do so. O’Neill claimed his first career NL Player of the Week Award and is the Cardinals’ second winner of the 2021 campaign, joining infielder Tommy Edman (August 29th).

-Batted .500 (10-for-20) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, four walks and a .900 slugging percentage over six games played.
-Batted a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored, a home run and three RBI in yesterday’s win over the New York Yankees.
-Yesterday’s round-tripper was his 35th of the season, the most among MLB switch-hitters in 2021.
-Has tallied an MLB-best 334 extra-base hits since the start of 2017. Is joined by All-Star Nolan Arenado as the only Major Leaguers with at least 150 homers and 390 extra-base hits since 2016.

-Posted a slash line of .391/.481/.826 with nine runs scored, nine hits, a double, three home runs, 10 RBI and two stolen bases across six games.
-Delivered multiple RBI in a career-best four consecutive games from Tuesday-Saturday.
-Launched his sixth go-ahead home run in the 8th inning-or-later yesterday against the San Diego Padres, passing Arenado for the Club lead. It also marked his sixth game-winning RBI of the season and his 12th go-ahead RBI.
-Enters play today in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak dating back to September 11th, propelling the surging Cardinals to a perfect 8-0 record. Scored at least one run in each of the eight contests.
