Official Ontario Blue Jays News Release
The Ontario Blue Jays are excited to announce that RHP Kansai Sugimoto (Kyoto, Japan) has committed to further his academic and baseball career at Yavapai College (NJCAA DI - Prescott, Ariz.).
Sugimoto joined the Ontario Blue Jays this past summer after playing most of his high school career with Corey Eckstein and the Fraser Valley Cardinals. Sugimoto currently resides in Mississauga with his homestay family while attending Clarkson Secondary School.
He will join a very strong Roughriders team who are annually among the best junior college teams in the country, vying for a spot in Grand Junction. Yavapai plays in the ultra competitive Arizona Community College Athletic Conference which has boasted a NJCAA World Series Champion twice in the past decade including winning it themselves in 2016. Kansai will look to join their rotation beginning in the Fall of 2022.
Sugimoto will be the second Ontario Blue Jays player to attend Yavapai College.
