Ontario Terriers
Although baseball is not quite all the way back, it is certainly front and centre in the Pinkney household.
This past week Terriers catcher Hugh Pinkney earned a scholarship to Rutgers University. He will land on the beautiful campus in New Brunswick, N.J. in August of 2022. Congratulations to Hugh and his family.
He is very advanced defensively, blessed with a lightning fast arm and well above average receiving and blocking skills. βHe possesses quiet leadership skills and is an excellent team mate.
At the plate he commands the strike zone, hits the ball to the alleys, and is a tough out. He also has a proficient baseball IQ on the base paths.
Rutgers is the largest institution of higher education in New Jersey with total enrolment of over 67,500.
It is the eighth oldest college in the United States and celebrated its 250th anniversary in November of 2016. U.S. News and World Report ranked Rutgers 22nd among public universities in 2020. Further, the Center for World Universities ranked Rutgers 50th globally.
Hugh is an outstanding high school student, posting a 4.0 GPA. In grade 9 he was honorued with the Athlete of the Year Award. He also captained the basketball team and was the quarterback of the football team.
Back on the baseball side, Hugh participated at T12 last year at the Rogers Centre.
The Scarlet Knights compete in the NCAA D1 Big 10 Conference with the likes of Ohio State, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland and Nebraska. Since 1950 over 100 Scarlet Knights have gone on to play professional baseball.
