Official Ottawa Titans News Release

Ottawa, Ont. - The Ottawa Titans have re-signed left-handed pitcher Chris Burica for the upcoming 2023 Frontier League season.

Burica, 25, returns to Ottawa after an impressive campaign as both a starter and reliever. During the regular season, Burica went 9-6 with a 4.51 ERA in 20 appearances (18 starts, two in relief) over 111 2/3 innings pitched. The 6-foot-6 lefty entered July with a team-best 2.90 ERA in only 49 2/3 frames. In seven of 17 starts, Burica tossed at least seven innings while pitching into the eighth twice. He also held the longest consecutive scoreless innings streak of 13 from May 24 to June 4.

Prior to the Titans, Burica appeared in 10 games (five starts, five in relief) in 2021 with Bobby Brown and the Pioneer League-champion Missoula PaddleHeads.

Hailing from Anaheim, Calif., Burica pitched to a 1-3 record with a 9.09 ERA in 32 2/3 innings in his final collegiate season. The southpaw tossed five seasons of collegiate baseball with Creighton University (Omaha, Nebraska) and California Baptist University (Riverside, California) from 2017 to 2021.

Burica was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the 40th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Orange Lutheran High School (Orange, California), but elected not to sign to attend college.
