The Toronto Mets have added Pete Orr, former big leaguer, current Milwaukee Brewers scout and minor league instructor to their coaching staff.
Orr (Newmarket, Ont.) made his major league debut April 5, 2005 at Dolphins Stadium on opening day as his Atlanta Braves played the Florida Marlins in Carlos Delgado’s first game with the Fish. Orr played eight years in the majors appearing in 443 games making stops with the Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies and the Braves.
In addition to his role with the Brewers, Orr, a member of the Ontario Blue Jays Hall of Fame, is also a coach with the Canadian National Junior Team. Mets President Ryan McBride is excited to be adding a coach with so much experience.
“Pete is an incredible addition to our program,” McBride said. “His playing, scouting and coaching experience is unmatched and his passion for giving back to Canadian baseball is something we will all benefit from.”
On the International stage, Orr has seen the World suiting up for the Canadian National Team, having the opportunity to play in the Olympics, the World Baseball Classic and the Pan American Games. In the 2015 Pan Ams played in Ajax, Orr scored the winning run as Canada won Gold against Team USA. Orr scored from first on an errant back-door pick off with men on first and second ... a throwing error by the right fielder and sliding head first into the catcher and knocking the ball loose.
Orr raised his arms in triumph -- one of the best pictures in Canadian baseball history.
