BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Canada improved their record to 2-1 at the WBSC Americas Pan Am Qualifying tournament with an 11-1 victory over Peru on Monday.

The Canadians scored 11 runs on 12 hits and 11 walks and played flawless defence.

Karl Gélinas (Laval, Que.) started for Canada and allowed just one run on five hits in four innings.

Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, N.S.) led the offence, going 4-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Jordan Procyshen (Calgary, Alta.) continued to swing a hot bat, collecting two hits and a pair of RBIs, while Wes Darvill (Richmond, BC) finished 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs.

Jesen Therrien (Montréal, Que.) was the first arm out of the bullpen for Canada. He didn’t allow a run and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings. Jake Polancic (Abbotsford, BC) closed out the game, recording the final four outs, three of which were strikeouts.

Canada resumes action on Tuesday against Honduras in their final round-robin game of the tournament.
