Official Kitchener Panthers News Release

KITCHENER - The Kitchener Panthers have signed RHP Matt Stoddart (Mississauga, Ont.) for the 2021 IBL Season.

Stoddart was a staple in the Humber College baseball program for five years (2015-2020). After spending his first two seasons as an infielder with a career batting average of .348, he transitioned to the mound and became Humber’s All-time leader in career appearances (22). During his stay, the team accumulated an NCBC National Championship (2018), two Gold medals (2018- 2019), one Silver medal (2017), and two bronze medals (2015-2016) at the OCAA Championships.

He completed his career at Humber with a 7-2 record with three saves and an ERA of 2.95. He also took home the 2020 Warrick Manner Award given annually to the student-athlete who displays athletic excellence in their sport and shows good sportsmanship throughout, along with a diploma in Business Administration.

In 2019, he was fortunate enough to travel to Europe and showcase his talents with the North Baseball Travel Team which trekked to Germany, Czech Republic, and Austria for games. During this trip, he caught the eye of an independent German League team, the Tubingen Hawks. In 2020, Matt signed his first professional contract with the team but was unable to attend due to COVID restrictions.

“After such a long absence from competitive play, I’m really looking forward to helping the Kitchener Panthers achieve success in any way possible,” said Stoddart.

The Kitchener Panthers are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 102-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
