Quebec’s Mr. Baseball

Rémi Patry and the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles beat the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes 25-2 in their third game of the Kansas Collegiate Conference (KCAC) season-ending tournament on Friday.

Patry (Gatineau, Que.) was brought into the game as a pinch runner, but later belted a home run and knocked in three runs.

In the following game, Patry and his teammates faced the University of Ottawa Braves where they suffered a 6-3 loss to end their season. Patry went 0-for-2.

Here’s a summary of how some of the other Quebec-born players performed in the U.S. college ranks in the past week:

Tommy Reyes-Cruz produces run

The Faulkner University Eagles won their second game of the Southern State Athletic Conference (SSAC) season-ending tournament 11-1 over Georgia’s Brewton Parker University Barons.

Tommy Reyez-Cruz (Montreal, Que.) walked and had a sacrifice fly in four plate appearances. He finished the game with a run and an RBI.

Two for Alexandre Bédard

In Game 2 of a doubleheader, the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Dawgs suffered a 6-5 loss in eight innings to the Arkansas Monticello University Weevils.

In the loss, Alexandre Bédard (Levis, Que.) had a hit, a walk and a run. Bédard’s teammate Jason Bégin (Sherbrooke, Que.), who was the designated hitter, was held in check in three plate appearances.

A hit each for Anthony Quirion and Déric Lamontagne

The Lamar University Cardinals fell 3-2 to their rivals, the Abilene Christian University Wildcats. Anthony Quirion (Dixville, Que.) and Déric Lamontagne (Beloeil, Que.) each went 1-for-4 in the contest.

Chénier-Rondeau limited to two walks

Félix-Antoine Chénier-Rondeau (Quebec, Que.) had two quiet games for the Cowley College Tigers from Kansas as his club split a doubleheader with the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers.

In the first game, a 13-3 Cowley win, Chénier-Rondeau had a walk and a run in four plate appearances. Then, in a 7-6 loss in the second game, he was limited to one walk in five plate appearances.

Chénier-Rondeau’s Quebec teammate, pitcher Olivier Morin-Larocque (Quebec, Que.) did not pitch in the game.

1-for-5 for Martin Vincelli-Simard

The Sacramento State Hornets earned a 14-11 victory over the California Baptist University Lancers. DH Martin Vincelli-Simard (Boisbriand, Que.) was 1-for-5 in the game.

The Quebecers of NEO register four walks

Normally when we write about the three Quebec-born players suiting up for the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Golden Norse - Mathieu Vallée, Édouard Savoie and Émile Boies - it is to tell you about their hits, runs and stolen bases.

But it was their patience at the plate that paid dividends in their 11-1 victory over the Rose State College Raiders. Savoie (Saint Eustache, Que.) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run, Boies (Quebec, Que.) walked twice and scored twice, while Vallée (Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, Que.) also had a walk.

Victor Plaz held in check

The Clarendon College Chaparrals won 6-3 victory over rival New Mexico Military Institute. Victor Plaz (Montreal, Que.) went 0-for-3.
