Former SIU outfielder Tristan Peters was named to the 2021 All-Canadian First Team by the Canadian Baseball Network, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Peters hit .355/.463/.548 and led SIU to a 40-win season in spring 2021 before being drafted in the seventh round of the MLB Draft in July by the Milwaukee Brewers.
After his only season as a Saluki, Peters (from Winkler, Manitoba, Canada) was named All-Midwest Region First Team, All-MVC Second Team, and All-MVC Defensive Team. He led the Missouri Valley conference in on-base percentage, walks, and doubles, and ranked third in hits, third in RBIs, fourth in stolen bases, fifth in batting average, sixth in runs scored, sixth in total bases, and 12th in slugging. He led SIU to its winningest season (40 wins) since 1990 and had 25 multi-hit games.
The All-Canadian First Team is comprised of just 12 members of the 814 Canadians that played the majority of their schedule in the United States in 2021.
Fifty-six baseball experts from Canada and the U.S. voted for the Canadian Baseball Network's annual college All-Canadian teams which have been recognized since 2000. The Canadian Baseball Network is regarded as the premier source of information on Canadian college players. Pete Berryman was the primary statistician for this project.
