The Pittsburgh Pirates extended spring team bested the Junior National Team 4-0 in the second pro game of the extended spring camp.
The Canadians could not get a run across the plate in this one despite outhitting the Pirates squad, 5-4.
RHP Michael Yusypchuk (Edmonton, Alta.) started the game for the Juniors and dominated the Pirates early, working three perfect frames and picking up five strikeouts.
Ryan Press (Toronto, Ont.) was the first out of the bullpen and was cruising through the middle innings giving up only a hit and a couple of walks while striking out four.
Maxime Boies (Levis, Que.), Anthony Clavet (Quebec, Que.), Eric Hartman (St. Albert, Alta.), William Polanco (Laval, Que.) and Ryan Stalony (Mississauga, Ont.) each singled, for the Junior National Team, but the offence failed to capitalize on their scoring opportunities.
Adyn Schell (Toronto, Ont.) worked a scoreless frame out of the bullpen, giving up just one hit and striking out a batter. Geoffrey D’Amato (Milton, Ont.) battled through the late innings allowing three runs on three hits while striking out four.
