The Edmonton Prospects rallied in the bottom of the 10th inning for a walk-off, 5-4 win over the Okotoks Dawgs at ReMax Field on Friday.
The best-of-three series is now tied 1-1 and the teams will play the deciding game on Saturday night at Seaman Stadium.
The Prospects opened the scoring in the first inning on a two-out RBI single by designated hitter Beaux Guilbeau.
Five innings later, the Prospects doubled their lead on a two-out, RBI triple by left fielder Jake McDonald off Dawgs starter Justin Hammergren to spoil a strong effort by the Lewis-Clark State senior.
In all, Hammergren would allow two runs in 5 2/3 innings while striking out nine for the Dawgs.
The Prospects countered with their ace Hunter Boyd who held the Dawgs off the scoreboard until the eighth inning. The Dawgs tallied their first run when Tristan Peters scored when a third-strike to Jaxon Valcke sailed to the back stop.
A sacrifice bunt from Oregon State signee Jacob Melton then advanced runners into scoring position before future Linn-Benton catcher Gavin Logan evened the contest with an RBI single.
The game went into extra innings tied 2-2 before the Dawgs broke the deadlock in the top of the 10th when Melton lead off with a double and Valcke cashed him in with an RBI single. Texas State's Will Hollis drove in another run for the Dawgs on a fielder’s choice to extend the lead to 4-2.
Dawgs closer Dustin Schorie, who had entered the contest in the seventh inning, had retired nine in a row before getting into trouble in the 10th. Schorie hit back-to-back batters with pitches with one out in the inning. The Dawgs then brought in Bellevue University reliever Brandon Desjardins and the Prospects orchestrated a successful double steal before centre fielder Travis Hunt cashed in one run on a sacrifice fly.
Down to their final out, the Prospects would load the bases before third baseman Tyler Maskill rapped a single up the middle to drive in two and give the Prospects a walk-off win.
