It’s true that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Yet, Indigo Diaz is building the Rome Braves win total at least two games a week.

The word indigo is a greenish dark blue color, but Indigo wears red, white and Rome blue.

How the week that was went for Diaz (North Vancouver, BC) who pitched for the North Shore Twins, Coquitlam Reds and Michigan State Spartan threw …

_ Three scoreless innings and gained the win when Rome scored a walk-off 4-3 win against the Greenville Drive before 1,067 fans at State Mutual Stadium. Davis came on in the eighth with Greenville leading 3-1.

He issued a lead-off walk in the eighth to Kole Cottam, whose roots go back to Burlington, Ont. then went strike out looking, a fly ball out and a swinging strikeout.

He recorded a 1-2-3 ninth with a fly ball, a called third strike and a swinging strikeout.

And in the 10th with a man on second base, he put two more swinging strikeouts, then Cottam swung at a third strike and reached on a wild pitch -- putting men on first and third. He escaped the jam with another strike out.

Diaz allowed one base runner -- a walk -- beside the dropped third strike and fanned eight. He moved his won-loss record to 4-0 and dropped his ERA to 0.73. He threw 44 pitches (64% strikes).

Cottam was 1-for-4 leaving his average at .255.

_ Diaz gained the save as Rome edged the Bowling Green Hot Rods 3-2 in front of 1,372 fans at Bowling Green Balllpark. Diaz was given the ball in the bottom of the ninth, after the Braves scored in the top half.

A fly ball, two strike outs and it was time to warm up the bus as Diaz watched his ERA fall to 0.68 for his third save.

This is the second week in a row where Indigo Diaz put up some very good numbers in two appearances for Rome Braves, and they seem to indicate he’s making rapid progress in his development. On May 28 in a 4-3 win over Greenville Drive he pitched three scoreless innings, without allowing a base hits, while striking out eight Greenville batters, to earn his fourth win of the season. He followed that up on June 1 with another fine outing in a 3-2 win over Bowling Green Hot Rots when he threw another scoreless inning without a base hit, while striking out two Bowling Green batters to pick up his third save of the year. His overall record in six appearances with the Braves in High-A Southeast, is now 4-0 with thee saves and a 0.68 ERA.

Adam Macko is a 20-year-old pitching prospect selected in the seventh round of the 2019 draft by the Seattle Mariners, and is currently in his second pro season. On May 20 this week he made a very good start in a 9-3 win over the Visailia Rawhide when he pitched five innings, gave up four hits and three runs -- two earned -- striking out 10 hitters, to secure the win. His record with Modesto Nuts in four starts now stands at 2-0 with a 4.42 ERA.
