Québec crowned national women’s champions, while Alberta claims 18U title

Over the weekend, Québec captured gold at the Women’s National Championships in Québec City, and Alberta did the same at the 18U National Championships in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Women’s National Championships
Québec defeated British Columbia 10-0 in five-inning, mercy-rule fashion.
The champions exploded for 12 hits, including seven combined from Sena Catterall and Andréanne Leblanc.
Catterall, who went 4-for-4 at the dish, scored three runs and drove in two, while Leblanc went 3-for-3, scored twice, walked once, and collected three RBIs.
Sophy Gagné was stellar on the mound en route to the win. She allowed three hits and struck out two.
Alexane Fournier (2), Alizée Gélinas (1), Ela Day-Bedard (1), and Emma Payette (1) drove in the remaining runs for Québec.
Québec takes home bronze
Earlier in the day, the second Québec team won bronze after beating Saskatchewan 12-0.
18U National Championships
The game was also called early on the east coast as Alberta defeated British Columbia 12-2 in five-inning, mercy-rule fashion.
Tanner Morrow, who had two of Alberta’s nine hits, propelled his team to victory with a five-RBI outing.
Corbin Lochhead and Ryder Petryshen each tallied two RBIs, while Zach MacDonald and Nicholas Westendorp drove in one to round out the scoring for Alberta.
Luke Schmitt, who earned the win for the champions, allowed six hits and two runs while striking out four.
Québec takes home bronze
Earlier in the day, Québec won the bronze medal after a 5-3 victory against Ontario.
