It won’t be long until the retired numbers go up on the outfield fences at Greg Cranker Field in Mississauga.

One such number -- No. 19 -- will be viewed differently on opening day.

Kevin Morris, one of the best infielder/right-handed pitchers to wear the Erindale red and white lost his father Al Morris on Tuesday. Al was a good friend, great fan, and a true supporter of Erindale.

Kevin attended Bluefield State College and also played for the Ivy Leafs, once beaten by Brian Kusiewicz of the Ottawa-Nepean Canadians. It was against Ivy where Brian earned his nickname: “Big Money.”

Also, Al was Cranker’s partner with some of his locations in his Subway empire. Al, also known as Hooter, owned the Meadowvale and Credit Valley hospital Subway stores. Al and Cranker were partners at the Home Depot and final store at College Way/Ridgeway store. Al pitched fast pitch in his day and he was from the Hanover, Ont., area.

Al was Ronna Cranker’s father , Jim Hunt,’s best pal for 60 years, a grandfather to the Cranker children and Aileen Morris is addressed as our “Auntie Aileen.”

Deepest sympathies are extended to all.
