Red Sox force deciding WMBL championship game against Mavericks

The Regina Red Sox scored six runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 9-5 win over Medicine Hat.

The Red Sox victory forces a fifth and deciding game in the WMBL Championship series. Game 5 will be played Thursday night in Medicine Hat. 

Medicine Hat battled back to make it a 6-5 game before Regina added insurance runs in both the seventh and eighth. 

Evan Rogers was solid over six innings of work allowing just three runs on seven hits and three walks. Rogers also fanned seven Maverick batters before turning the game over to reliever Anthony Race. Race faced nine batters over two innings.  Adam De La Cruz came out in the top of the ninth to end the Mavericks' final threat.   

Saskatoon product Jared Libke started for the Mavericks and lasted just 3 1/3 innings surrendering six runs. Sean Cruz was summoned from the bullpen and held the Red Sox to a run on six hits. Closer Tyler Shumpert faced eight Regina hitters in the bottom of the eighth inning. 

Offensively for the Red Sox Adam De La Cruz continued to be a dual threat as he had three hits and two RBI in the win. Wesley Moss, Phil Langlois and Erik Crossman all had multiple hits in the game. 

Nolan Rattai was an offensive force for Medicine Hat. The Northern Kentucky sophomore had two runs, two hits, two RBI and two walks on the night. Louis Canjura also contributed two hits and two RBI.
