Red Sox place Pivetta on 15-day injured list

BOSTON, Mass.—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta on the 15-Day Injured List, retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain.
To fill Pivetta’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino from triple-A Worcester.
Pivetta, 31, has made two starts this season, going 1-1 with a 0.82 ERA (one ER/11.0 IP). The right-hander most recently pitched on April 3 against the Oakland Athletics, tossing five scoreless innings. Originally selected by the Washington Nationals in the fourth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Victoria, B.C., native owns a 4.81 ERA in 198 career games (154 starts) with the Philadelphia Phillies (2017-20), and Red Sox (2020-24).
Bernardino, 32, pitched in two games for Worcester this season, allowing three runs in 1 2/3 innings. The left-hander pitched in seven Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox this spring, allowing one run (zero earned runs) in 6 2/3 innings. Originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 26th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 3.23 ERA (19 ER/53.0 IP) in 57 career games (six starts) with the Seattle Mariners (2022) and Red Sox (2023).
