Red Sox reinstate O'Neill from 10-day injured list

The Boston Red Sox have reinstated Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, B.C.) from the 10-day injured list.

The Boston Red Sox have reinstated outfielder Tyler O’Neill from the 10-Day Injured List.

To make room on the active roster, the club optioned catcher Tyler Heineman to Triple-A Worcester.

O’Neill, 28, was placed on the Injured List on May 29, retroactive to May 26, with right knee inflammation. The right-handed hitter played in one rehab game with Worcester last night, starting as the designated hitter and going 0-for-3. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Maple Ridge, B.C., native has batted .236 with an .843 OPS and 11 home runs in 41 games this season while making 17 starts in left field, 14 in right field, and eight as the designated hitter.

Heineman, 32, has played in one Major League game this season, starting as the Red Sox’ designated hitter on April 21 at Pittsburgh. In 22 games with Worcester, the switch-hitter has batted .235 with 13 runs scored, two home runs, and eight RBIs. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .217 in 105 career Major League games with the Miami Marlins (2019), San Francisco Giants (2020), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-23), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).
