BOSTON, Mass.—The Boston Red Sox reinstated outfielder Tyler O’Neill from the 7-Day Injured List on Tuesday.

(Editor’s Note: O’Neill then batted third and went 1-for-4 in the Sox 4-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on Tuesday night.)

In addition on Tuesday, the club placed catcher Tyler Heineman on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to April 22, with a right hamstring strain.

O’Neill, 28, was placed on the injured list on April 18, retroactive to April 16. The right-handed hitter has played in 15 games with Boston, making 10 starts in right field and four in left field while batting .313 (15-for-48) with a team-leading seven home runs. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Maple Ridge, B.C., native has batted .250 (378-for-1,512) with 85 home runs and 225 RBIs in 492 career Major League games for the St. Louis Cardinals (2018-23) and Red Sox (2024).

Heineman, 32, was recalled from Worcester on Sunday and made his Red Sox debut that day, starting as the designated hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The switch-hitter has also played in nine games for Worcester this season, batting .259 (7-for-27) with a .412 on-base percentage, seven runs scored, five walks, and two stolen bases. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .217 (54-for-249) in 105 career games with the Miami Marlins (2019), San Francisco Giants (2020), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-23), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).
