The Toronto Blue Jays and free-agent outfielder Dexter Fowler have reportedly agreed to a minor-league contract that includes an invite to the balance of Major League camp this spring.
Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reported the expected transaction on Wednesday.
Fowler, 38, has slashed .259/.358/.417 through 1,460 big league contests dating back to his rookie campaign with the Colorado Rockies in 2008. Across 5,902 plate appearances, the switch-hitting product of Atlanta, Ga., has posted an OPS of .775 with 462 extra-base hits.
Flipped to the Los Angeles Angels ahead of his final season of a four-year $82.5M agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals last February, Fowler was limited to only seven appearances due to suffering an ACL tear in a game against the Blue Jays on April 9.
Should he prove healthy enough to compete, Fowler will join Raimel Tapia in the hunt for the club's fourth outfielder when camp breaks in early April.
