R.I.P. Denny Lemaster, former Expos pitcher

Former Montreal Expos pitcher Denny Lemaster has died at the age of 85.

Denny Lemaster, who pitched in 13 games in relief for the Montreal Expos in 1972 to finish his career, has died in Monroe, Ga., at the age of 85.

Lemaster was obtained by the Expos from the Houston Astros on Oct. 14, 1971 and was released on Canada Day in 1972.

Lemaster was 2-0 with Montreal but allowed 17 earned runs for an ERA of 7.78, pitching his last game June 21.

Denver Lemaster was best known for his time with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves and the Astros. He was signed as a bonus baby by Milwaukee for a reported $70,000 and was projected to be the next Warren Spahn.

Lemaster finished his career with 66 complete games, 14 shutouts and an ERA of 3.58 He was 58-59 with the Braves, 30-46 with Houston.

For most of his life after baseball, Lemaster was a custom home builder and master duck carver.
