Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

This past Sunday, the Hamilton Cardinals lost one of the most impactful figures in the organization’s history, Larry Wood.

For over 17 years, Larry was the cornerstone of the franchise, dedicating his time and expertise to every aspect of the organization. He served through ownership changes, providing a steady hand and invaluable guidance. He helped nurture countless players, both through coaching on the field and leading the team in the front office.

Larry was known for his stoic presence, serving as the backbone of the organization without seeking the spotlight. He was a constant source of support for players and staff, always ready to lend a hand. His fair and compassionate treatment of everyone, along with his willingness to listen, made him a motivating force throughout the organization.

Beyond his work with the IBL Cardinals, Larry contributed to league matters for the Intercounty Baseball League, where he was widely respected as a voice of reason. He was also a founding member of Hamilton Cardinals Rep Baseball, serving as the organization’s first president. His leadership was instrumental in establishing the foundation for what the program is today. In 2023, his dedication was recognized with a Lifetime Honorary Membership in Hamilton Cardinals Rep Baseball.

Larry’s influence extended beyond the field, and his legacy will continue to be felt by all who knew him. His unwavering dedication and contributions have allowed the Hamilton Cardinals to thrive for many years, making him irreplaceable.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Larry’s family during this difficult time, as we honour the incredible legacy he leaves behind.
