Gallagher: R.I.P. Tony Scott, former Expo

Former Montreal Expos outfielder Tony Scott died on May 26 at the age of 72.

Tony Scott, who had two different stints with the Expos, died May 26 at the age of 72.

Scott died in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was born in 1951. No cause of death was given.

Scott played for the Expos from 1973 to 1975 and then again in 1984. In 222 at-bats in total he hit .207 with zero homers and 17 RBIs. Known as The Flyhawk King, he was signed by Expos scout Terry Boyle.

Following the 1976 season which he spent in its entirety with Montreal's triple-A team in Denver, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals with Steve Dunning and Pat Scanlon in exchange for Bill Grief, Sam Mejias and Angel Torres.

Scott enjoyed his best season in the majors with St. Louis in 1979 with six homers and 68 RBIs while batting .259.

After playing with the Cardinals, he played for the Houston Astros for a few seasons before returning to the Expos midway through the 1984 season.

Scott played for the Winter Haven Super Sox of the Senior Professional Association. He hit .360 in 51 games with the club.
