While the Toronto Blue Jays have been bashing lately, the Tampa Bay Rays quieted their bats, beating them 2-1 in action at Dunedin Stadium on Tuesday.
Aaron Sanchez went four innings, giving up just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts, getting five ground outs and just one fly out, facing just two batters over the minimum. Sanchez has now thrown 8 2/3 innings without giving up a run, and only allowing two hits over that span as he asserts his health and return to form.
John Axford (Port Dover, Ont.) came in for the fifth, allowing one run in his inning while Ken Giles struck out a pair, facing just three batters in the sixth. Ryan Tepera got into trouble, giving up two runs in the seventh while Thomas Pannone struck out two in the eighth, as did Sam Gaviglio in the ninth.
The Blue Jays had just six hits on the day, getting a pair from Kevin Pillar who drove in the Blue Jays' only run on a single to right, bringing Teoscar Hernandez in. Hernandez was 1/2 with a walk while Freddy Galvis (1/3), Billy McKinney (1/4) and Anthony Alford (1/3) had the others.
On Tuesday, the Blue Jays head to Sarasota to face Baltimore with Marcus Stroman on the mound for Toronto.
