Official Ottawa Titans News Release

Trois-Rivières, Que. - The Ottawa Titans (15-6) used a 3-for-4 performance from Jake Sanford (Cole Harbour, N.S.) to take the series opener 5-1 over the Trois-Rivières Aigles - in eight innings - on Tuesday night.

The Titans wasted little time as Will Zimmerman led off the game with an infield single and later came into score on an AJ Wright RBI ground out.

Left-hander Evan Grills (Whitby, Ont.) got the nod on Tuesday for his third start of the season and faced trouble in the bottom of the second. After the Aigles loaded the bases off of a single and a pair of walks with one out, Grills managed to get out of the jam by striking out Vaibhav Desai and getting Dustyn Macaluso to pop out to catcher Tyrus Greene to end the inning.

In the third, the eventual winning run came across to score on Jake Sanford's mammoth shot over the wall in right off Aigles southpaw David Gauthier (Sainte-Julie, Que.). The two-run homer put the Titans up 3-0, as Sanford is now up to five long balls on the season.

After single tallies in the fifth and seventh, it would prove to be all Grills would need on Tuesday, as the veteran sat down 10 of 11 Aigles at one point from the third until the seventh, en route to the win. The Whitby native bounces back following the loss on May 29 at home to Gateway, tossing seven scoreless innings, giving up only four hits, three walks and punching out seven for the quality start.

As the rain started to come down at Stade Quillorama, Kyle Serrano forced in a run on a wild pitch, walking four total in the bottom half of the eighth before the game went into a delay. Following a half-hour delay, the game was called with the potential tying run coming to the plate with one out and the bases loaded.

With the win, the Titans continue their hot streak, coming out victorious in their sixth straight game.

The Titans continue their three-game series against the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Wednesday night with Zac Westcott taking the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Stade Quillorama. The Titans return home on Friday at 6:30 p.m. to take on the Empire State Greys.
