For a time it seemed as if the first pitch thrown outdoors in Saskatchewan would never come due to the COVID‑19 pandemic.
Then, Chase Thomson threw the first pitch for the Regina Wolfpack to get things started. Finally, the season was underway in the 18U Saskatchewan Premier League.
The top half of the first also appeared as if would never end ... going on and on and on ... as the Regina Athletics scored eight times in beating the Wolfpack 10-0 in the opener at Andy Currie Field.
Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and Saskatchewan are all underway.
We’re not sure how it all unfolded and in what order but here is who did what ...
Lead-off man Dayen Schmidt singled and walked twice.
Dylan Fiske had two hits, knocked in a run and walked once.
R.J. Dickie singled and walked twice.
Gavin Wuschke doubled to drive in three runs and walked twice..
Antnony Meyer singled.
Ethen Merk doubled in a pair of runs.
Jesse Fayant took the mound with an eight-run lead and did his job. He threw strikes working five scoreless as he allowed two hits and three walks, while striking out eighth.
Curry and Wuschke each pitch a scoreless inning.
The Wolfpack’s Thomson retired only two hitters and was charged with eight runs -- two earned -- on four hits and five walks.
The three Athletics arms allowed singles to Noah Newaman, Michael Horn, Zander Oudie-Senger and Ben Klein.
